Spindrift was a trusting squirrel from Anemone Wood, who was the first wife of Husk and the mother of Juniper.
Personality[]
Spindrift was trusting and somewhat naïve, but very loving; she placed all of her trust in Husk up until the moment he assassinated her. She was also open to her friends, such as Damson.
History[]
Before the Books[]
Spindrift grew up in a very private community of squirrels along a series of cliffs. During her childhood, she became friends with Damson.
Spindrift fell in love with Husk and together they had a baby, Juniper. According to Damson, the pregnancy was unexpected for both parties. After Husk became a Captain, he fell in love with Aspen, and plotted to kill Spindrift to get her out of his way. One night, after trading ships were at the docks, Spindrift and Juniper both went missing, though Juniper was found, alive, by Damson.
Unknown to everyone but Damson, who witnessed it all, Husk murdered Spindrift and placed her body in a leaky boat to get rid of it. Due to her lack of widespread status, and her community's tendency to keep to themselves, everyone else on the Island, with the likely exception of Brother Fir, thought that Spindrift had fallen in love and had fled Mistmantle to be with a sailor. In addition, Damson was afraid of what could happen to her if she admitted to what she saw, and as a result didn't tell anyone until she confessed to Juniper while on her deathbed.
