Smokewreath was an evil squirrel sorcerer, akin to a priest of sorts, on Whitewings Island, who served under King Silverbirch.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Smokewreath rose to power alongside King Silverbirch. Smokewreath, with his charisma, managed to control Silverbirch to varying degrees of success, convincing him to order the murders of many animals, including Brother Candle and Almond, Urchin's parents, who he saw as a threat to his position as sorcerer.

The Marked Squirrel[]

Smokewreath is first seen in the castle with King Silverbirch and insists that he can obtain all the silver the King needs. He also claims he could make 'great magic' with Urchin's fur, head, and heart. When Urchin is escorted to his room, Smokewreath begs the King to give the young squirrel to him, and Silverbirch promises to give him Urchin when the first snow falls.

On the first snowfall, Urchin is to be given to Smokewreath, but is rescued by Cedar, Juniper, Lugg, Flame, and Larch. Later, an earthquake happens due to all the mining, collapsing King Silverbirch's Fortress, and Smokewreath is killed in its destruction.[1]

Legacy[]

Queen Cedar sees Smokewreath in her nightmares, in which he appears to be taking Catkin's blanket.[2]

Personality[]

Smokewreath was shown to be manic, but also intelligent. He was also charismatic to a certain degree, and extremely sadistic, disemboweling his victims for the purpose of "magic". When Urchin was shown his room, he noted the amount of pelts of animals surrounding the walls and organs stored in various vessels, alongside instruments of torture and sacrificial tables.

Smokewreath was shown to have received prophecies, although this could be attributed to his intelligence, making inferences and masking them as prophecies to stay in Silverbirch's good will.
